Howdy! Thanks so much for visiting this peculiar website! To orient you, it has two unrelated parts: 1) a collection of hundreds of images of intriguing claims (well, intriguing at least to me) of the superlative example in the world of something–e.g., the world’s finest pizza, and 2) a periodic blog, covering a wide range of topics. There’s also a tab leading to my other blogs, such as volunteering in Haiti after the earthquake, and seeking my roots in a tiny village in western Ukraine. Hope you enjoy it, and if you are inclined please sign up to be notified of new posts!
World’s Superlatives
For many years I’ve been astounded by claims that something is the superlative case of its kind in the world: the world’s smallest department store, the world’s best coffee, the world’s friendliest casino. How, in the world, do they know? Have the claimants measured every department store? Tasted every brew of coffee? Visited every casino?
In the olden days, I began photographing such images with a real camera, then a digital camera, and now, with my phone. Many were taken in perilous circumstances, including–more than once–sticking my head out the window of a moving car (I wasn’t driving). Apologies for the quality of some of them.
Please join me in contemplating these various world’s superlative claims!
My Blog
Welcome to my blog! I haven’t come up with a name for it yet, so until I do I’ll just call it My Blog. That should make it easy to Google. I’m working on a clever name, so expect to be informed of it in the near future. Or not.
My plan is to write posts every other week. With any luck, I’ll keep that pace up for at least two weeks. Then, inevitably, posts will drop off, to perhaps once a month. After that, they might be a bit more sporadic. Say, maybe two a year.
Subsequently the blog will likely lie fallow for several years, until suddenly I realize I have something new to say. But by then I’ll probably have forgotten the password, and even the blog’s clever name. So maybe I should just keep it as My Blog, so at least I can Google it.
